An Exchange Between Two Bodies at One Time was shown at Art Basel Miami 2018 as an abbreviated conception of In Shadow. The viewing space was transformed into a shadow landscape dedicated to the people killed by US Custom and Border Patrol officers. Hand carved shadow portraits lined the room and hand cut vellum of abstracted “falling bodies” were on display behind a shadow screen. Shadows are significant to this story; unseen but ever present, in the afterworld, the underworld, the world that follows and never precedes, the world that we are attached to regardless of desires or intentions. A recital of the victim’s names filled the space and participants were encouraged to sit, light a candle and memorialize, rejoice, and mourn these often untold and hidden deaths.
