AN EXHIBITION EXPLORING BORDERS & MIGRATION
In Shadow is a collaborative exhibition that transforms 912 Julia St into a gallery partly steeped in darkness. Through this constructed darkness we find a place to mourn and reflect with the illuminated hand- carved portraits, forms, and storyboards the artists explore themes of criminalization of migration and the devaluing of migrant lives, resulting in 1000s of untold deaths in the borderlands. In the lit half of 912 Julia the viewer will interact with photos, fabric art, sculpture and screen prints that explore the settings of borders around the world and specifically the cause and effects of US interventionism and imperialism. Featured during the two weeks of that this exhibit will be discussions, live performances, letter writing, movie screenings, and live skype chats with people banned from entering the US.
